Stair Railing Installation

Let’s talk about handrailings. The original hand railing is the usual one you see in many houses. We were debating whether just to refinish them or change them out completely.

Original Stair Case

Because I wasn’t a fan of the curb on the bottom step, which gave the entrance a more old school look, it’s beautiful, but not for my style. We had the bottom step cut and squared. We also had the decorative stair tread brackets removed, which made a difference in the end result.

We ended up having no railings for about two weeks. With a two-year-old and a dog, it was very anxiety-provoking. Here is a look at the stairs with no railing.

No handrails, bottom stair squared off and off with the decorative stair treads.

I had a few inspiration photos of the railings that I had shown my contractor, aka my stepdad. He’s been in charge of bringing our vision in many projects around our house into fruition. Not to be biased, but I recommend him for any renovations. If you’re local, I know a guy.

We decided on the vertical iron balusters with stained railings and posts. I think they came out amazing. It’s precisely the look we were going for.

We purchased all our material from Cheapstairparts.com. Here's a list of the material we used.
